Balsamic Vinegar

Balsamic Vinegar or Aceto Balsamico is a magic ingredient and should be present in any kitchen. Salads get a deeper flavor, and soft fruit gets an extra dimension.

Just like wine or cheese such as Parmesan, age is a factor in the quality of balsamic vinegar.

You can spend anything from 3 to 100 Euros or more (or Dollars) on a 250 ml bottle of balsamic vinegar. Why is that and do we need to?

Its price has two do with these factors, as with wine or cheese:

  • High quality ingredients
  • High quality process
  • Age. The more expensive Balsamicos are 5, 7 or even 12 years old.

Sometimes I splurge and buy some high quality Balsamico, but for day-to-day kitchen use it is good to have a bottle of simple Bertolli balsamic vinegar on my work bench.

Aceto Balsamico di Modena

The region of Modena is the true home of balsamic vinegar.

Use Balsamico in salads (tomato in general, Caprese specifically) or with a raspberry desert for a kick!
